TEN THINGS TO KNOW

1. Kansas City’s 2026 playoff berth marks its third consecutive, and fourth overall, postseason appearance in the club’s six-year history. The Current is one of just three NWSL teams riding a postseason streak of three or more years.

2. The club secured the No. 4 seed, tied for its second-best regular season finish in franchise history. The Current, who enters playoffs on a five-game win streak, is hosting a quarterfinal match at CPKC Stadium for the third consecutive season.

3. Kansas City will face Angel City FC, the No. 5 seed, for the first time in postseason play. The overall series history between the two sides is tied at 4-4-2, but the Current leads at 4-1-1 since the start of the 2024 season.

4. The only team who went unbeaten at home in the regular season, Kansas City extended its NWSL record to 32 regular season matches undefeated (25-0-7). The Current is 41-2-9 all-time at CPKC Stadium across all competitions.

5. With 54 goals, Kansas City concluded the regular season tied with Angel City for most goals scored. That’s the most in club history, and the second-highest single season total in NWSL history. The Current also recorded 50 or more points in three straight seasons.

6. Thirteen different Current players scored at least once during the regular season, the second-most goalscorers in a single season in club history. Four different players combined for eight multi-goal performances – including three hat tricks – which is tied for the most in a single regular season in league history.

7. Forwards Temwa Chawinga and Haley Hopkins capped off the regular season with a team-high 12 goals and four assists. They finished sixth and seventh, respectively, on the Golden Boot leaderboard. Kansas City was the only club which had multiple players score 12 or more regular season goals.

8. Hopkins joined defender Izzy Rodriguez as the only two Current players to appear in all 30 regular season matches.  Seven of her 12 regular season goals came in the last five matches, making her the second player in NWSL history to score seven times in her final five games of a regular season.

9. Since returning from maternity leave in July, midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo has totaled five goal contributions in the form of one goal and four assists – all which have come in the last five games. She dished out a pair of assists in Sunday’s regular season finale to bring her career total to 35, just one shy of the NWSL record.

10. Chawinga, who recently garnered her second straight CAF Women’s Player of the Year nomination, finished 10th in the 2026 Ballon’ d’Or Feminin rankings after placing 17th last year. Goalkeeper Lorena finished 28th in her first career nomination. The Current is the only NWSL club, and one of just seven clubs around the world, who had multiple top 30 finishers.
