Match Preview: Kansas City Current Starts Two-Match Week Wednesday Vs. Racing Louisville FC

KANSAS CITY (July 28, 2026) – The Kansas City Current (8-7-1, 25 pts., 6th place) returns home to CPKC Stadium for two matches this week, the first which takes place on Wednesday, July 29, against Racing Louisville FC (3-10-2, 11 pts., 16th place). Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT and limited tickets are available for purchase HERE.

The match will broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network with Chris Wittyngham and Lori Lindsey on the call as well as on the World Feed with Josh Eastern and Celia Jimenez. Fans in Kansas City can catch Kylen Mills and Jordan Angeli on The Spot – Kansas City 38 with a pregame show, KC Current Matchday, beginning at 6:30 p.m. CT. Dave Borchardt and Doug McLagan will be over the air on 90.9 The Bridge, and the game will be available on the KC Current App in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

The Current will celebrate Soccer at Schools Night, presented by Bank of America, on July 29. The club will also honor Kansas City’s Black history, artistic expression and culture throughout Celebrating Black Culture at CPKC Stadium. 1. Kansas City holds a narrow 5-4-2 lead in the all-time series with Louisville. The Current has won three straight against Racing, each by multi-goal margins, including a 4-2 victory at CPKC Stadium on June 14, 2025.

2. The last meeting between the two sides was on Aug. 1, 2025, in Louisville which resulted in a 2-0 KC Current win. Forward Temwa Chawinga scored in the 65th minute before defender Elizabeth Ball found the back of the net in the 72nd minute in what was her 100th regular season appearance.

3. Midfielder Debinha has contributed to 12 goals (7 goals, 5 assists) in 11 career matches against Racing Louisville across all competitions, the most by any player against a single NWSL opponent since Racing joined the league in 2021. She has been directly involved in at least one goal in eight of those 11 matches.

4. Kansas City is on an active home unbeaten run of 24 consecutive regular season matches at CPKC Stadium (20-0-4), extending its NWSL record.

5. The last match at CPKC Stadium was a 2-2 draw with San Diego on July 17. The Current has never gone two straight regular season home matches without a win since moving into the stadium in 2024 and has outscored opponents 16-3 in the home match following a non-win.

6. Midfielder Croix Bethune ranks second in the NWSL with six regular season assists. Her next assist will set a new KC Current single-season assist club record, and her next game-winning assist will tie the NWSL single-season record of five.

7. Debinha’s next regular season assist will make her the first player in NWSL history to reach 20 goals/10 assists for two different clubs. Her next regular season game-winning goal will be the 20th of her career, the third player in NWSL history to hit that mark.

8. The next KC Current win that midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo plays in will be her 100th career regular season victory, becoming the fourth player in NWSL history to reach that milestone.

9. Ball recently signed a one-year contract extension through the 2027 season with a mutual option for 2028. A cornerstone of the Current since joining the team in January 2021, she was part of the club’s first-ever roster and her 98 regular season appearances for Kansas City rank third in franchise history.

10. Chawinga is currently with the Malawi Women’s National Team at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), taking place in Morocco from July 26 to Aug. 16. The tournament serves as the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier for African nations. This is Chawinga’s first appearance for the Scorchers since Feb. 2025.

During each KC Current 50/50 Raffle drawing period, half of the jackpot goes to one lucky winner while the other half goes back into the Kansas City community.
