TEN THINGS TO KNOW
1. Kansas City looks to bounce back from its 2-1 defeat on Wednesday at Angel City FC. Forward/midfielder Ally Sentnor scored in the 45th minute for her second goal this season off a feed from defender Izzy Rodriguez, her second assist this year.
2. This will be the second game between the Current and the Thorns this year, the first which was a 2-0 Portland win on March 28. The last meeting between the two sides at CPKC Stadium was a 3-1 victory for Kansas City on March 15, 2025, with three first-half goals from forward Temwa Chawinga, forward Michelle Cooper and midfielder Debinha.
3. Kansas City is unbeaten in 21 straight regular season home matches (18-0-3) at CPKC Stadium. That’s tied with North Carolina (21 straight in 2023-24) for the second-most in NWSL history and trails only Seattle (22 straight in 2014-15).
4. In addition to their 21-straight home unbeaten streak, the Current has won their last eight regular season games at CPKC Stadium. A win on Sunday would make Kansas City the first team in league history to win nine straight regular season home matches.
5. Chawinga has scored 25 regular season goals at home, while opponents have scored a combined 27 regular season goals at CPKC Stadium. Only two players have scored more regular season goals in a single venue in NWSL history: Christine Sinclair (41 at Providence Park) and Marta (26 at Inter&Co Stadium).
6. Chawinga has 40 goals and 10 assists for on her regular season resume, a feat that was achieved in just 50 matches. She is by far the fastest to reach 50 regular season goal contributions. The next closest player, Portland forward Sophia Wilson, reached the milestone in 63 regular season games.
7. Rodriguez has eight regular season assists since the start of last season, more than any other player in the NWSL in that time. She has assisted 12 different teammates since her debut in 2022, tied for the most in NWSL history.
8. Midfielder Croix Bethune has 14 regular season career assists, the most in the league since she made her debut at the start of the 2024 season. She has averaged 0.41 assists per 90 minutes in her career, the best among players to play 3,000+ minutes in NWSL history (Tobin Heath - 0.37, Lauren Holiday - 0.37).
9. Rodriguez is set to play in her 37th straight regular season game on Sunday, which will be the second longest streak in club history. Rodriguez and fellow defender Elizabeth Ball will both be making their 96th regular season appearance for Kansas City, the second most in franchise history.
10. Goalkeeper Lorena and forward Kyra Carusa were called up by the Brazil National Team and the Ireland National Team, respectively, for the June international break. Lorena led her team to the silver medal at the 2024 Olympic Games and Carusa was named the 2025 Football Association of Ireland Senior Women’s International Player of the Year.
