Match Preview: Kansas City Current Welcomes North Carolina Courage to CPKC Stadium

KANSAS CITY (Aug. 28, 2026) – The Kansas City Current (9-8-4, 7th place, 31 pts.) is back home at CPKC Stadium to host the North Carolina Courage (11-7-3, 5th place, 36 pts.) on Saturday, Aug. 29, to close out the month. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. CT and limited tickets are available for purchase HERE.

The match will broadcast nationally on ION with JP Dellacamera and Jill Loyden on the call as well as on the World Feed with Matt Pedersen and Erika Tymrak. Fans in Kansas City can watch a simulcast on The Spot – Kansas City 38 with a pregame show, KC Current Matchday, beginning at 4:30 p.m. CT. Dave Borchardt and Sarah Gonzalez will be over the air on 90.9 The Bridge, and the game will also be available on the KC Current App in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

On Saturday, The University of Kansas Health System and the Kansas City Current are partnering for Brain Health Awareness Night. Fans in attendance for the match will be able to learn more about brain health through pre-match activations on the CPKC Plaza and can learn more about ways to keep their brains healthy with tips from The University of Kansas Health System.

TEN THINGS TO KNOW

1. Kansas City leads the all-time regular season series with North Carolina at 6-4-2. The Current has never lost a regular season home match vs. the Courage (4-0-2) and has kept a clean sheet in all four wins at CPKC Stadium since its opening in 2024.

2. The last meeting between the two sides was May 2 in North Carolina where the Current prevailed for a 2-1 win. Midfielder Croix Bethune scored in the eighth minute before she assisted forward Michelle Cooper’s game-winner 15 minutes later. 

3. Kansas City is on an active home unbeaten run of 27 consecutive regular season matches at CPKC Stadium (21-0-6), extending its NWSL record.

4. Bethune is currently tied for first in the league with nine assists. Only two players in NWSL history have recorded 10 assists in a single regular season: Tobin Heath (Portland, 2016) and Bethune (Washington, 2024).

5. Midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta needs just 43 more regular season minutes to become the 20th player in NWSL history to reach 10,000 minutes for one club. She reached 15,000 minutes and 200 appearances earlier this season. 

6. Kansas City's next win will be its 10th of the season, becoming the sixth club in league history to record double-digit wins in three or more consecutive regular seasons.

7. Bethune (No. 2) and forward Temwa Chawinga (No. 7) were ranked in ESPN’s Top 25 NWSL Players rankings earlier this month. Additionally, Kansas City checked in at No. 11 in Opta’s recent Women’s Global Club Power Rankings.

8. Defender Katie Scott has been named to the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team roster for the 2026 FIFA U-20 World Cup, set to take place in Poland from Sept. 5-27. She is one of eight NWSL players on the roster.

9. The Kansas City Current has extended goalkeeper Kaylin Williams-Mosier’s short-term contract. Williams-Mosier initially joined the Current in June as a goalkeeper replacement player, having most recently been on the KC Current II roster. 

10. Defender Izzy Rodriguez is the club’s nominee for the 2026 NWSL Lauren Holiday Impact Award, presented by Nationwide. During each KC Current 50/50 Raffle drawing period, half of the jackpot goes to one lucky winner while the other half goes back into the Kansas City community. Raffle tickets can be purchased at designated kiosks at CPKC Stadium or online, and you must be 18 or older to buy a ticket and be located in Missouri or Kansas at time of purchase. The raffle period will take place over several days, and the winner will be announced 90 minutes post-match of the final raffle-ending match at CPKC Stadium.
