Match Preview: Kansas City Current Welcomes Denver Summit FC to CPKC Stadium

KANSAS CITY (Sept. 25, 2026) – The Kansas City Current (11-9-5, 38 pts., 8th place) returns home on Saturday, Sept. 26, to host NWSL expansion side Denver Summit FC (9-8-8, 35 pts., 10th place) at CPKC Stadium for the first time. Kickoff is set for 11:30 a.m. CT, and limited tickets are available for purchase HERE.

The match will broadcast nationally on CBS with Chris Wittyngham and Lori Lindsey on the call as well as on the World Feed with Jonathan Matthes and Saskia Webber. Dave Borchardt and Jillian Carroll Letrinko will be over the air on 90.9 The Bridge, and the game will also be available on the KC Current App in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

On Saturday, the Current and United Way of Greater Kansas City will come together to raise awareness of the 211 community hotline during United By 211, presented by United Way of Greater Kansas City. Fans will be able to learn more about the 211 hotline, which answers more than 350,000 calls from Kansas Citians on a yearly basis, and the various organizations working to make Kansas City a better place throughout the match. 

Saturday will also be the Current’s Celebrating Hispanic Heritage match. Chico Sierra will host an artist pop-up, there will be a paint-by-numbers mural by Andrea Cira and Folklorico Dance Group will perform, along with additional activations and limited-edition merchandise.

TEN THINGS TO KNOW

1. Saturday will be Kansas City’s 50th game played at CPKC Stadium across all competitions, including Teal Rising Cup. The Current owns a 38-2-9 record at home.

2. The Current is on an active home unbeaten run of 29 consecutive regular season matches at CPKC Stadium (22-0-7), extending its NWSL record.

3. This will be the second meeting between Kansas City and Denver in club history, and the first at CPKC Stadium. The Summit is playing in their inaugural season as the NWSL’s 16th franchise.  

4. The first-ever meeting between the two sides was July 3 in Denver where the Current posted a 3-0 shutout win. Forward Michelle Cooper registered her first career regular season brace with goals in the 35th and 81st minutes while forward Temwa Chawinga found the back of the net in the 87th minute.

5. Chawinga has scored in each of her last six starts at CPKC Stadium since the beginning of May, totaling nine goals. She has scored 29 times at CPKC Stadium in regular season play with only Christine Sinclair (41 at Providence Park) scoring more in a single stadium in NWSL history.

6. Chawinga scored her team-leading 10th goal of the year vs. Orlando two weeks ago. She became just the third player in NWSL history to score double-digit goals in three straight regular seasons, joining Sam Kerr (2017-19) and Sophia Wilson (2022-24).

7. Midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo recently cracked into the NWSL’s top-10 list for all-time regular season minutes played. She has logged 16,472 career minutes over 12 regular seasons between Chicago and Kansas City.

8. Defender Maëva Nyadjou, who signed with the Current earlier this month, has officially arrived in market. She helped Cameroon win its first WAFCON title in August where she was named the tournament’s Best Young Player and tabbed to the WAFCON Best XI.

9. Goalkeeper Lorena was called up by the Brazil National Team for the October FIFA window earlier this week. She was recently named to the 2026 Ballon d’Or shortlist and a finalist for the 2026 Yashin Trophy for the first time in her career.

10. Kansas City will host a super‑charged matchday experience — One Current 2026: Bigger Home. Bigger Future. — that will transform CPKC Stadium and Current Landing into the largest gathering of 18,000 Current fans in club history on Sunday, Oct. 25, for the regular season finale. The Kansas City Current is pleased to announce the 50/50 Raffle supporting United Way of Greater Kansas City. During each KC Current 50/50 Raffle drawing period, half of the jackpot goes to one lucky winner while the other half goes back into the Kansas City community. Raffle tickets can be purchased at designated kiosks at CPKC Stadium or online, and you must be 18 or older to buy a ticket and be located in Missouri or Kansas at time of purchase. The raffle period will take place over several days, and the winner will be announced 90 minutes post-match of the final raffle-ending match at CPKC Stadium.
