Match Preview: Kansas City Current Returns Home for Saturday Clash with Gotham FC

KANSAS CITY (April 3, 2026) – A clash between reigning NWSL Shield winner Kansas City Current (1-3-0, 13th place, 3 pts.) and defending NWSL champion Gotham FC (1-1-2, 9th place, 5 pts) will take place on Saturday, April 4, at CPKC Stadium. The rematch of last season’s NWSL quarterfinal – and a preview of this year’s NWSL Challenge Cup – is slated to begin at 3 p.m. CT.

The match will broadcast nationally on CBS with Jacqui Oatley and Lori Lindsey on the call as well as on the World Feed with Tyler Terens and Kika Toulouse. Fans can listen to the action on 90.9 The Bridge with Dave Borchardt and Jillian Carroll Letrinko, and the game will be available on the KC Current App in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Saturday’s contest will serve as Power of Us, presented by United Way of Greater Kansas City. United Way of Greater Kansas City, the Current’s front-of-kit and official charity partner, will celebrate the power of the Kansas City community and National Volunteer Month. There will be an exclusive co-branded rally towel giveaway for the first 6,000 fans in attendance, and a pre-match flyover will highlight the festivities.

TEN THINGS TO KNOW
1. Saturday will be a rematch of the 2025 NWSL quarterfinals as well as a preview of the 2026 NWSL Challenge Cup between defending Shield winner KC Current and reigning champion Gotham FC. More information about the Challenge Cup on June 26 in Columbus, Ohio, can be found HERE.

2. With a mark of 5-0-5, Kansas City remains unbeaten vs. Gotham in the all-time regular season series. The Current has outscored Gotham 14-7 in the regular season, including 7-2 for regular season matches with home field advantage.

3. Saturday’s game will feature the last two NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year winners: Lorena (2025) and Ann-Katrin Berger (2024). Last year, Lorena became the first goalkeeper to win the award in club history.

4. Kansas City is looking to bounce back following a three-game road losing streak. With only one goal on the year, Gotham FC has failed to score in its last three matches.

5. The KC Current owns a 21-1-5 record across 27 regular season games at CPKC Stadium and has scored in all but two regular season matches played at home.

6. The next goal for midfielder Debinha will be her 80th NWSL goal in all competitions. Only Seattle Reign’s Lynn Biyendolo (82) has more. Debinha’s next assist will also make her the first player in league history to record 20 goals/10 assists with two different teams in the regular season.

7. Defender Izzy Rodriguez has assisted 11 different players since her debut in 2022, with only Sam Coffey and María Sánchez having set up more different teammates for goals. Rodriguez became the outright club record holder with 12 regular season assists on March 22.

8. Forward Michelle Cooper and forward/midfielder Ally Sentnor, the latter who has a team-leading three goals for the U.S. in 2026, were called up by the U.S. Women’s National Team for the upcoming FIFA window. Goalkeeper Lorena will be with Brazil for the international break, and forward Kyra Carusa was called up by Ireland.

10. The Kansas City Current has removed forward Temwa Chawinga from the season ending injury (SEI) list. She was placed on SEI after sustaining a lower body injury towards the end of the 2025 regular season. Chawinga is the two-time defending NWSL MVP and Golden Boot winner, having totaled 35 goals and nine assists in 48 regular season appearances between the 2024 and 2025 campaigns.
