TEN THINGS TO KNOW
1. Kansas City is unbeaten in three straight matches against Washington (2-0-1), keeping clean sheets in all of them. The only team to shut out the Spirit in four straight regular season matches is the Utah Royals, who did so in 2018-19.
2. Forward Temwa Chawinga scored in her first three meetings vs. Washington, one of seven teams she’s scored against in at least three games in a row. The only players to score in more than three straight matches against the Spirit are Alex Morgan (5 straight, 2013-15) and Christen Press (4 straight, 2015-17).
3. Friday’s match will be a homecoming for defenders Ellie Bravo-Young and Gabrielle Robinson. Natives of Fairfax, Va., and Springfield, Va., respectively, both players grew up and began their soccer careers about 30 minutes outside of Washington, D.C.
4. Forward Temwa Chawinga, forward Michelle Cooper and forward/midfielder Debinha have all had a goal and/or an assist in the same NWSL regular season match six times, most recently during the last NWSL match on April 4 for a 2-1 win over Gotham FC.
5. Five different KC Current players have scored at least 10 regular season goals since the start of the 2024 season. No other NWSL team has more than two double-digit scorers in that time.
6. Debinha is two goals away from matching the NWSL record for most goals across all competitions. Her next regular season game-winning goal will be her 20th, becoming the third player in NWSL history to hit that milestone.
7. During the international break, Kansas City won the Teal Rising Cup for the second year in a row following a 2-1 win over Corinthians SC and a dominant 6-1 rout of SE Palmeiras. Eight different Current players contributed to goals.
8. With four goals across two matches, forward Haley Hopkins was named the Teal Rising Cup MVP, earning the honor in back-to-back years. She had a first-half hat trick vs. Palmeiras, the first in CPKC Stadium history and the second in club history across all competitions.
9. Forward Michelle Cooper and forward/midfielder Ally Sentnor were with the U.S. Women’s National Team during the April FIFA window for three games against Japan. Cooper subbed in twice, and Sentnor appeared in all three matches and earned a starting role on April 14. Also representing the USA was defender Katie Scott who played with the Under-20 National Team for a pair of friendlies vs. the Brazil U-20 squad in Kansas City.
10. Midfielder Rocky Rodríguez represented the Costa Rica National Team during the break. She had a hat trick against the Cayman Islands and helped her team secure another win over Guatemala to sit atop their World Cup qualifying group. Forward Kyra Carusa played with Ireland for two games vs. Poland as part of the World Cup European Qualifiers. She recorded an assist as the Irish won both contests.
