Match Preview: Kansas City Current Rematches With Orlando Pride on Friday

KANSAS CITY (Sept. 11, 2026) – The Kansas City Current (11-8-4, 7th place, 37 pts.) carries a three-game unbeaten streak into a Friday night rematch with the Orlando Pride (9-12-2, 11th place, 29 pts.) on Sept. 11. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT at CPKC Stadium for the team’s first of two home matches during the month of September.

The match will broadcast nationally on Prime with Mike Watts, Lori Lindsey and Lianne Sanderson on the call as well as on the World Feed with Sara Ach and Gary Bailey. Dave Borchardt and Jillian Carroll Letrinko will be over the air on 90.9 The Bridge, and the game will also be available on the KC Current App in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

The Current will honor the lifesaving work of first responders during the club’s first-ever First Responders Night on Sept. 11. Throughout the match, the club will celebrate the everyday heroes who selflessly serve the community. The game will feature themed activations and additional in-stadium recognition of first responders.

1. Orlando holds a narrow 4-3-4 lead in the all-time regular season series with Kansas City, and the Current seeks to avenge a 3-0 road loss to the Pride earlier this season.

2. Forward/midfielder Debinha has recorded 18 career goal contributions in 23 matches against Orlando in all competitions (14 goals, 4 assists). The only player to record more against a single NWSL opponent in all competitions is Lynn Biyendolo with 19 vs. Houston (10 goals, 9 assists).

3. Kansas City is on an active home unbeaten run of 28 consecutive regular season matches at CPKC Stadium (22-0-6), extending its NWSL record.

4. With 11 wins on the 2026 campaign, Kansas City is the sixth club in NWSL history to record double-digit wins in three or more consecutive regular seasons.

5. Forward Temwa Chawinga and goalkeeper Lorena are two of four NWSL players named to the 30-player shortlist for the prestigious 2026 Ballon d’Or. Lorena is also one of five global finalists for the 2026 Yashin Trophy. 

6. Croix Bethune’s next assist will be her 11th of the regular season, breaking a tie with herself (2024, Washington) Cloé Lacasse (2026, Utah) and Tobin Heath (2016, Portland) for the league’s single-season record.

7. Bethune was named to August’s NWSL Best XI of the Month, presented by Amazon Prime, last week for recording one goal and two assists. It was her third consecutive monthly honor, and seventh of her career.

8. Defender Kayla Sharples is set to become the 10th player in club history with 50 regular season starts for the Current. She hit 100 career regular season appearances earlier this season.

9. Defender Katie Scott is with the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team at the 2026 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland. She is one of eight NWSL players on the roster. She started and logged 45 minutes in the opening group stage match vs. Italy on Sept. 6.

10. Kansas City will host a super‑charged matchday experience — One Current 2026: Bigger Home. Bigger Future. — that will transform CPKC Stadium and Current Landing into the largest gathering of 18,000 Current fans in club history on Sunday, Oct. 25, for the regular season finale. KC CURRENT EXTENDS ITALA GEMELLI

The Kansas City Current has extended defender Itala Gemelli’s short-term contract through Dec. 31, 2026. Gemelli, who initially joined the Current in late July as a roster relief player, made her NWSL debut on Sept. 4 at Bay FC and logged a full 90 minutes as a starter. She had most recently been on the KC Current II roster where she was team captain, helping the team win the 2026 WPSL Championship while being named to the WPSL All-Central Region Team and WPSL All-National Selection Team.
