TEN THINGS TO KNOW
1. Kansas City looks to avenge its 2-1 road loss vs. Chicago on March 22. Forward Haley Hopkins scored in the 57th minute off a feed from defender Izzy Rodriguez, but two earlier goals for the Stars gave them the win.
2. The last meeting between Kansas City and Chicago at CPKC Stadium was a 4-1 Current win on Sept. 26, 2025, which saw goals from forward/midfielder Debinha, forward Temwa Chawinga and midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta. LaBonta’s goal came from the penalty spot, marking her NWSL record-tying 14th career PK.
3. Kansas City is 22-1-5 across 28 regular season home games at CPKC Stadium and has scored in all but two. The Current is unbeaten in 19 consecutive regular season home matches (16-0-3) and has won the last six.
4. A win or draw on Sunday would make Kansas City the third team in NWSL history to go unbeaten in 20 straight home regular season matches, joining Seattle (22 straight in 2014-15) and North Carolina (21 straight in 2023-24).
5. The Current is coming off a road win over the North Carolina Courage on May 2, earning three points after a 2-1 victory. Midfielder Croix Bethune scored in the eighth minute – the club’s earliest goal this year – before she assisted forward Michelle Cooper 15 minutes later.
6. Bethune provided her 13th NWSL assist on May 2, the most in the league since she made her debut at the start of the 2024 season. She has averaged 0.36 assists per 90 minutes in her regular season career, the third-best among players to play 3,000+ minutes in NWSL history (Tobin Heath - 0.37, Lauren Holiday - 0.37).
7. Bethune had a goal and assist in the same game for the second time in her regular season career last weekend. With two goals and one assist, she leads the Current with three goal contributions so far in the 2026 regular season. Cooper also has two goals.
8. Cooper became the fourth player in KC Current history with 20 regular season goal contributions (14 goals, 6 assists) on May 2. She joins Chawinga, Debinha and LaBonta as the only players in club history to achieve the feat.
9. Five different KC Current players have scored at least 10 regular season goals since the start of the 2024 season. No other NWSL team has more than two double-digit scorers in that time.
10. Forward/midfielder Debinha has been placed on the 45-day injury list after a knee injury sustained last month.
