Match Preview: Kansas City Current Heads to Space City for Matchup with Houston Dash

KANSAS CITY (Aug. 7, 2026) – The Kansas City Current (9-7-2, 5th place, 29 pts.) hits the road this weekend for a visit to the Lone Star State to play the Houston Dash (5-8-4, 13th place, 19 pts.) on Saturday, April 8. Kickoff is set for 7:45 p.m. CT at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas.

The match will broadcast nationally on ION with Michael Wottreng and Merritt Mathias on the call as well as on the World Feed with Jonathan Matthes and Lianne Sanderson. Fans in Kansas City can watch a simulcast on The Spot – Kansas City 38 with a pregame show, KC Current Matchday, beginning at 7:15 p.m. CT. TEN THINGS TO KNOW

1. Kansas City has won three of its last four regular season matches against Houston (3-1-0) and leads the all-time regular season series (6-4-3). However, neither team has recorded multiple wins over the other in a single regular season.

2. The last meeting between the two sides was a 3-0 Kansas City win at CPKC Stadium on May 15. The Current benefited from an own goal and forward Temwa Chawinga scored twice, both assisted by forward Michelle Cooper.

3. Midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta has scored at least one goal vs. Houston across all competitions in each of the previous five calendar years (2021-25). Only three players have scored in six or more consecutive full seasons (excluding 2020) against a single NWSL opponent.

4. Midfielder Croix Bethune was named to the NWSL Best XI of the Month, presented by Amazon Prime, for July. It marked her sixth career monthly honor and her second of the year. She recorded one goal and four assists last month. 

5. Bethune ranks second in the NWSL with seven regular season assists so far this year, a new KC Current club single-season record. She is one away from reaching 20 career regular season assists and is on pace to be the second-fastest player to do so.

6. Forward Haley Hopkins registered three goals and an assist last week, highlighted by a brace and an assist in a 5-1 win over Louisville. With five goals so far this regular season, Hopkins has now matched her career total from her first three professional seasons combined. 

7. Midfielder Debinha co-owns the NWSL record for most goals scored across all league competitions with 82. Her next regular season assist will make her the first player in NWSL history to reach 20 goals/10 assists for two different clubs.

8. Rookie defender Meila Brewer has been called up to the U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team for a training camp this month as the USA continues preparations for the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Brewer is the only professional player on the U-17 roster.

9. Chawinga is currently competing with Malawi in its Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) debut. She led the Scorchers to the top of Group C standings, and they will play in the quarterfinals on Sunday as they seek their inaugural World Cup berth.
