KANSAS CITY (Oct. 23, 2026) — The Kansas City Current is headed back to the NWSL postseason for the third consecutive season. The Current officially punched its ticket to the 2026 NWSL Playoffs, presented by Google Pixel, on Friday night following other results from around the league. The NWSL postseason begins with the quarterfinal round Nov. 6-8.
Kansas City’s 2026 playoff berth marks the club’s third consecutive postseason appearance and fourth trip to the playoffs in the franchise’s six-year history The Current is one of only three NWSL clubs currently riding a postseason streak of three seasons or longer. With two regular season matches remaining, the Current has collected 47 points and sits fourth in the NWSL table.
With a chance to solidify its postseason seeding, the Kansas City Current plays its final home match of the regular season on Sunday at 4 p.m. CT against the Washington Spirit. The Current will extend the excitement of its matchup against the Spirit with the club’s annual Fan Appreciation Match — hosting a fan festival experience that extends beyond the CPKC Stadium walls for the ultimate matchday destination. The club will welcome a record-setting gathering crowd of 18,000 fans to CPKC Stadium and Current Landing to create the biggest matchday experience in KC Current history.
Fans can join the excitement on Sunday with a first-of-its-kind Current Landing Grounds Pass, allowing fans to take in the matchday excitement just steps from the stadium. Grounds Pass tickets begin at just $10 and can be purchased HERE. More information regarding the matchday programming for next Sunday’s match against Washington can be found HERE.
Kansas City has continued to make CPKC Stadium one of the toughest places in the league to play throughout the season. The Current remains unbeaten at home in 2026 with an unblemished 10-0-4 record, extending its NWSL-record home unbeaten streak to an incredible 31 consecutive matches. Kansas City has poured in 50 goals this season, including a league-record-tying three hat tricks, with 37 of those goals coming in front of the home crowd at CPKC Stadium. That total matches the 2024 squad for the most home goals in a single season in club history.
Last Saturday’s victory at Utah also pushed Kansas City across another major benchmark, as the Current reached the 50-goal mark for just the second time in franchise history, joining the 2024 squad. On the other end of the field, Kansas City has recorded five shutouts, including two away from home.
Kansas City enters Sunday’s match against Washington riding a three-match winning streak, with playoff positioning — and the opportunity to bring playoff soccer back to CPKC Stadium — still on the line. The top four teams on the final NWSL table will host a quarterfinal match, and the highest remaining seeds will host the semifinal contests. The 2026 NWSL Championship, presented by Google Pixel, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
Previously, Kansas City advanced to the championship match in 2022 as the fifth seed, advanced to the semifinals in 2024 as the fourth seed and made the quarterfinal round in 2025. The Current’s quarterfinal round opponent will be finalized following the conclusion of NWSL Decision Day on Nov. 1.
Season ticket members will have the first opportunity to secure tickets for a potential home quarterfinal match at CPKC Stadium. Beginning Sunday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. CT, season ticket members can claim their postseason tickets and purchase additional seats through Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 9 a.m. CT.
Current Club members will then receive an exclusive 24-hour presale beginning Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 10 a.m. CT.
