Temwa Chawinga signed with the Kansas City Current ahead of the 2024 season and delivered the most dominant debut campaign in NWSL history. In 2024, Chawinga became the first player in league history to score 20 goals in a season, record a goal in eight consecutive regular season matches and score a goal against all 13 NWSL teams. Her record-breaking season culminated with her earning both the NWSL Golden Boot and NWSL MVP honors, the first player in franchise history to claim either award.
Prior to Kansas City, Chawinga played for Wuhan Jianghan University F.C. in the Chinese Super League from 2020-23 where she totaled 84 appearances and 84 goals. She scored 51 goals in the 2023 calendar year alone, finishing as the world’s top scorer across all competitions. From 2018-20, Chawinga starred in Sweden for Kvarnsvedens IK, netting 55 goals in 57 appearances.
Internationally, Chawinga debuted for Malawi at age 18. She scored her first international goal against Zambia in 2016 and captained the Malawian National Team at the 2023 COSAFA Cup where she won both the Golden Boot and Golden Ball for scoring nine goals.
