Mary Long joined the Kansas City Current in January 2025 and then signed a two-year contract extension at the end of her rookie season to keep her in her hometown through 2027. Her first professional season in 2025 saw her play in 10 regular season matches with her first start coming on Oct. 6 at Angel City FC. She dished out her first NWSL assist on Sept. 26 at Chicago Stars FC. Long also scored the game-winning goal in the title game of the Teal Rising Cup vs. Corinthians SC as the Current won the trophy. Long helped the club win the 2025 NWSL Shield while setting league records for points (65), wins (21), consecutive wins (9), multi-goal games (18) and multi-goal wins (15), among others.
Long entered the professional ranks after a standout season at Duke University in 2024. At Duke, she contributed three goals and one assist in 15 appearances, helping the Blue Devils secure the 2024 ACC regular season title and reach the NCAA College Cup semifinals. She appeared in all five NCAA matches, accumulating a goal and an assist during the tournament.
Internationally, Long is a staple in the U.S. Youth National Team system. She helped the U.S. U-20 National Team qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after its top four finish at the 2025 Concacaf U-20 Championship. The forward totaled three goals and an assist at the Concacaf Championship with a brace against Puerto Rico as well as a goal and an assist vs. Costa Rica. She had a brace in a friendly vs. England in November 2025 with the U-20s. Long earned eight caps with three international goals in 2024 as a key starter for the U.S. U-17 National Team prior to her U-20 call-up. She was one of four college players on the roster for the 2024 FIFA U-17 World Cup where she guided the U.S. to bronze. Long started five straight matches at forward at the World Cup, netting a goal in a victory over South Korea in addition to adding an assist and drawing a penalty against Colombia during the group stage. She scored twice in a friendly against Brazil during her first national team call-up for a training camp in preparation of the U-17 World Cup in 2024.
