Lo’eau LaBonta, a dynamic midfielder and captain for the Kansas City Current, has been a cornerstone of the club since its inception in 2021. Initially drafted by Sky Blue FC in 2015, she later played for FC Kansas City and the Utah Royals before returning to Kansas City with the Current. On Nov. 6, 2025, she signed a three-year contract extension to keep her with the club through the 2028 season.

Known for her leadership and goal celebrations, LaBonta has over 120 appearances for the KC Current with more than 10,000 minutes across all competitions. She has recorded 21 goals and seven assists in the regular season with the Current. LaBonta solidified herself as the league’s all-time great from the penalty spot on Sept. 26, 2025, when she converted her 14th career regular season PK. That moved her up to be tied with Megan Rapinoe for first in NWSL history for most regular season PKs. With 180, she is one of 50 players in NWSL history with over 150 regular season appearances and became the 26th player to ever make 150 career regular season starts. She has also logged over 13,000 career regular season minutes.

LaBonta earned a spot on the NWSL Best XI in 2022 and to the NWSL Second XI in 2024. She has 10 NWSL Best XI of the Month honors, tied for third all-time. She was fundamental in the Current winning the 2025 NWSL Shield and setting numerous regular season NWSL records including points (65), wins (21), consecutive wins (9), consecutive shutout minutes (869), shutouts (16), consecutive shutouts (9), multi-goal games (18) and multi-goal wins (15), among others.

Internationally, LaBonta earned her first USWNT call-up during the May/June 2025 international window. Her first cap was on May 31, 2025, vs. China PR as the oldest player to debut for the USWNT in the program’s 40-year history at 32 years and 74 days. She also played against Jamaica a few days later, and she subbed in during two friendlies during the October 2025 window in what was her second call-up.

LaBonta played her collegiate career at Stanford University from 2011–14 and was part of the 2011 NCAA Championship team. She made 78 appearances for the Cardinal and scored 22 goals with seven assists while logging over 4,500 minutes. She also earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention praise.
