Temwa Chawinga Wins 2025 NWSL Golden Boot

KANSAS CITY (Nov. 2, 2025) – For the second year in a row – and in both years she has played in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) – Kansas City Current forward Temwa Chawinga is golden.

Chawinga won the 2025 NWSL Golden Boot, awarded annually to the highest goal scorer during the regular season. She finished with 15 goals and three assists across her 23 regular season appearances. Chawinga outscored her closest Golden Boot contender, Gotham FC’s Esther González, by two goals and two assists.

The Malawi native also claimed the Golden Boot in 2024 during her first season in the NWSL. Chawinga is now the second player in the league’s 13-year history to win the award multiple times, joining Sam Kerr who won it in three consecutive seasons from 2017-19.

A year after her record-breaking debut NWSL season, Chawinga continued to rewrite the history books in 2025. On May 16, the lethal forward became the fastest player to notch 25 regular season goals, doing so in six fewer matches than anyone else in what was her 34th appearance. She then needed just 40 games to score 30 regular season goals – 11 fewer than any other player in history – setting that record on Aug. 8.

On June 7, Chawinga became the first player in NWSL history to score in each of her first four regular season matches against two different clubs. Then, three months later, she became the first player in the league to score in seven consecutive regular season road matches. Six of her 15 regular season goals were game-winners which equaled her own NWSL record first set last year, and she also tied the league standard with eight consecutive regular season games with a goal.

Chawinga was named the NWSL Player of the Month in March and May, bringing her career player-of-the-month accolades up to five for the most in league history. She also earned five NWSL Best XI of the Month selections this year, and her 10 career monthly honors is now tied for second all-time. She also received the first Ballon d’Or nomination of her career and finished No. 17 in the final rankings.

Having concluded one of the most decorated regular seasons in league history, Kansas City now looks towards the 2025 NWSL Playoffs, presented by Google Pixel. The Current won their first-ever NWSL Shield and will enter the postseason with the No. 1 overall seed.
