TEMVP – Again! Kansas City Current Forward Temwa Chawinga Voted 2025 NWSL MVP, Presented by AT&T

KANSAS CITY (Nov. 19, 2025) – Kansas City Current forward Temwa Chawinga has been voted the 2025 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Most Valuable Player (MVP), presented by AT&T, for the second straight year to cap off another record-breaking season. Chawinga was announced as the winner on Wednesday at the inaugural NWSL Awards, presented by AT&T, in San Jose, Calif.

Chawinga, who also won back-to-back Golden Boot awards, is the first player in NWSL history to be named MVP in consecutive years. She joins Sam Kerr (2017, 2019) as the only players in league history to win MVP accolades multiple times.

In addition to Chawinga, the finalists for 2025 NWSL MVP included fellow KC Current teammate and forward Bia Zaneratto, San Diego forward Delphine Cascarino, Gotham forward Esther González and North Carolina midfielder Manaka Matsukubo. Voting was determined based on a weighted voting scale comprised of players (40%), owners/general managers/coaches (25%), media (25%) and fans (10%).

Chawinga solidified her MVP status and claimed the Golden Boot, awarded annually to the highest goal scorer during the regular season, for finishing with 15 goals and three assists across her 23 regular season appearances. She, along with Kerr (2017-19), is the only multi-time Golden Boot winner in NWSL history.

A year after her record-breaking debut NWSL season, Chawinga continued to rewrite the history books in 2025. On May 16, the lethal forward became the fastest player to notch 25 regular season goals, doing so in six fewer matches than anyone else in what was her 34th appearance. She then needed just 40 games to score 30 regular season goals – 11 fewer than any other player in history – setting that record on Aug. 8.

On June 7, Chawinga became the first player in NWSL history to score in each of her first four regular season matches against two different clubs. Then, three months later, she became the first player in the league to score in seven consecutive regular season road matches. Six of her 15 regular season goals were game-winners which equaled her own NWSL record first set last year, and she tied her own league standard with eight consecutive regular season games with a goal.

The Malawian international was instrumental in helping the Kansas City Current set NWSL records for points (65), wins (21), consecutive games scoring multiple goals (8), most multi-goal wins (15) and multi-goal games (18), among others, during the regular season. She scored her 13th goal of the season on Sept. 20 vs. Seattle as the Current won their first-ever NWSL Shield.

Chawinga was named the NWSL Player of the Month in March and May, bringing her career player-of-the-month accolades up to five for the most in league history. She garnered five NWSL Best XI of the Month selections this year, and her 10 career monthly honors are now tied for second all-time.

She also received the first Ballon d’Or nomination of her career and finished No. 17 in the final rankings. Additionally, she earned her second career nomination for Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s Player of the Year and was recently nominated for The Best FIFA Women’s Player.
