NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year, Presented by e.l.f., Awarded to Kansas City Current’s Lorena

KANSAS CITY (Nov. 19, 2025) – Kansas City Current goalkeeper Lorena, who rewrote the record books during her first season in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), was named the 2025 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year, presented by e.l.f. She was announced as the winner on Wednesday at the inaugural NWSL Awards, presented by AT&T, in San Jose, Calif.

Lorena is the first player in KC Current club history to win NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year.

In addition to Lorena, the finalists for 2025 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year included Gotham’s Ann-Katrin Berger and Seattle’s Claudia Dickey. Voting was determined based on a weighted voting scale comprised of players (40%), owners/general managers/coaches (25%), media (25%) and fans (10%).

With Lorena between the posts to anchor a stalwart defensive unit, the Current set NWSL records for clean sheets (16), consecutive shutouts minutes (869), consecutive shutouts (9) and shutouts at home (8) in 2025. Kansas City conceded just 13 goals during the regular season for yet another league record. She also helped the club win its first-ever NWSL Shield.

The Brazilian netminder’s first season in the NWSL saw her break league records with 690 consecutive shutout minutes and 14 regular season clean sheets. She was the first goalkeeper in NWSL history to go 5-0-0 in her first five league appearances, and she tied the league mark for fastest keeper to reach 10 shutouts, doing so in just 17 matches. She finished the regular season with a .827 save percentage, first amongst goalkeepers with double-digit starts.

Lorena, who was part of the starting lineup in every match she appeared in, set a club record with 24 regular season starts. Her team-high 2,160 regular season minutes also set a new franchise record for most minutes logged in a single regular season. Lorena’s 14 regular season clean sheets broke the club record for career shutouts, a feat she achieved in just her first season with the Current. Her four straight clean sheets from March 22 to April 19 was yet another franchise record, and she then matched that from Aug. 8 to Aug. 30.

She was named to the NWSL Best XI of the Month in March and June as one of only two goalkeepers in the league to earn the monthly praise multiple times this year. Her impressive saves – which included denying a penalty kick vs. Angel City on June 20 – led her to receive NWSL Save of the Week honors in Week 2, Week 6 and Week 13.
