New Study Reinforces Strength of Economic and Fiscal Impact Anticipated with KC Current and New Riverfront Stadium

The Kansas City Current today announced the latest key findings from an economic impact study as it relates to the club’s new riverfront stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

Opening in 2024, the Kansas City Current’s new 11,500-capacity stadium in Berkley Riverfront Park will be the first stadium purpose-built for a women’s professional team.

“This study helps illustrate why we are so excited about the future of this club and the positive financial impact this new stadium will bring to the Kansas City region,” said KC Current owner Angie Long. “Our project will generate new jobs, spark new spending that will benefit the entire community, and attract fans and visitors from outside the region. This study reinforces the goals and dreams we have as we continue to make history and do something that’s never been done before, both in Kansas City and across the globe."

The study, which was presented to the Missouri Development Finance Board earlier this week, estimates that the operations of the new stadium and the team will generate the following net economic impact for the State of Missouri annually:

  • Total Economic Output: $60mm+ in total direct, indirect, and induced spending
  • Employment: 1,450+ full- and part-time jobs
  • Wages: $50mm+ in annual wages

Over a 30-year period, the stadium and team are expected to generate $1bn+ in total economic output for the State of Missouri and $700mm+ for Kansas City, Mo.

Additionally, while construction is under way, the stadium project is expected to generate the following economic impact for the State of Missouri:

  • $95mm+ in total economic output
  • 1,150+ annual construction-related jobs
  • $85mm+ in construction-related wages
