ORLANDO, Fla. (July 10, 2026) — The Kansas City Current (8-6-0, 24 pts., 5th place) wrapped up its two-match NWSL regular season road swing Friday night with a 3-0 defeat to the Orlando Pride (6-6-2, 20 pts., 8th place) at Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando, Fla. Following an hour-long weather delay, the sides played to a scoreless stalemate in the first half before the Pride used a trio of second-half goals to seal the result.
Kansas City welcomed back midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo in the late stages of the match as a substitute. DiBernardo, who gave birth to her daughter in January and officially made her return to the active roster this week following maternity leave, made her first appearance for the Current in 386 days. She played the final nine minutes plus stoppage time and donned the captain’s armband.
Despite the weather delay, the match saw both sides spring to life with early scoring opportunities. The Current’s first chance came in the 13th minute after a turnover forced by midfielder Debinha at the corner of Orlando’s 18-yard box led to a strike from forward Haley Hopkins that sailed just high. Three minutes later, a long-range effort from midfielder Croix Bethune marked Kansas City’s first shot on target.
Forward Amelia White, who made her first career NWSL regular season start, curled a threatening cross into the penalty area from the right wing in the 22nd minute. The ball met Debinha near the penalty spot, who settled the pass and fired a half-volleyed effort on goal that was kept out with a sprawling punch from Pride goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse.
The Current put the ball in the back of the net four minutes later after Debinha was played through on goal, fought off an Orlando defender and squared a ball across the penalty area for Hopkins, who tapped it past Moorhouse to seemingly put Kansas City ahead. However, Debinha’s initial run was ruled offside and the match remained level. The Current generated several additional scoring chances as the half progressed, but neither side could find a breakthrough in the opening half.
Orlando went ahead in the early stages of the second frame through a long-range effort from forward Marta, who found the bottom right corner of the goal in the 49th minute. A headed effort from defender Hannah Anderson doubled the Pride’s advantage in the 57th minute.
Efforts from midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta in the 62nd minute, Bethune in the 67th minute and defender Kayla Sharples in the 72nd minute all nearly gave the Current a lifeline, but Kansas City ultimately could not break through Orlando’s defense. Forward Barbra Banda added a third goal for the hosts in the 85th minute.
In addition to DiBernardo, who made her first appearance for the Current since June 20, 2025, against Angel City FC, forward Gianna Paul returned to the pitch for the first time in 107 days as a second-half substitute. Friday’s match marked Paul’s first action since March 25.
The Current returns to CPKC Stadium for the club’s first home match in nearly two months, as they welcome the first-place San Diego Wave on Friday, July 17, at 7 p.m. CT. The match will broadcast nationally on Prime Video, and fans in Kansas City can listen to the match on 90.9 The Bridge. An audio feed of the match will be available in English, Spanish and Portuguese on the KC Current App.
Next Friday’s match is Kid’s Night Out, presented by CVS Health. The Current and CVS Health will come together to celebrate youth sports and community wellness throughout the match. Youth-focused activations, on-field moments and a special giveaway for the Current’s youngest fans will feature throughout the contest. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
