TEN THINGS TO KNOW

1. This is the first-ever meeting between the Kansas City Current and Denver Summit FC, which is playing in its inaugural season as the NWSL’s 16th franchise.

2. Since 2021, the reigning Shield winners have lost only two of 16 games with NWSL newcomers in the regular season and playoffs (10-0-4). Kansas City has won all five matches against NWSL newcomers since the start of 2024.

3. The Current has won each of the last 22 regular season matches in which forward Temwa Chawinga has scored dating back to October 2024, the longest streak of its kind in NWSL history, five longer than any other (midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo – 17 straight for Kansas City and Chicago from 2014-present).

4. Kansas City’s last regular season match was on May 30 at home against another NWSL expansion team, Boston Legacy FC. The Current won, 1-0, after Chawinga’s game-winner. It was the club’s 28th regular season shutout since the start of 2024, the most by any team in that span.

5. Since both players entered the NWSL in 2024, no active player has recorded more regular season assists than midfielder Croix Bethune (15) or scored more regular season goals than Chawinga (41). Defender Izzy Rodriguez (8) has provided the most regular season assists since the start of the 2025 season.

6. Chawinga has scored at least once in 36 of her 56 career regular season matches (64.3%), by far the highest rate in NWSL history among players with 20+ appearances (Sam Kerr – 48.7%). She has 42 career regular season goals.

7. The next win midfielder Debinha plays in will be her 100th regular season win, becoming just the third player to reach that milestone. Additionally, Bethune is set to play in her 50th regular season match on Friday.

8. Chawinga was named the NWSL Player of the Month in May for scoring seven goals. She and Bethune, who had one goal and three assists in May, landed on the Best XI of the Month.

9. Defender Katie Scott was recently called up to the U.S. U-20 National Team for an upcoming training camp and two international friendlies in Georgia. Additionally, defender Meila Brewer is with the U.S. U-17 National Team in Japan for a training camp and pair of matches.

10. Chawinga has been nominated for the 2026 ESPY Awards in the Best Soccer Player category. The awards show takes place on Wednesday, July 15, at 7 p.m. CT. Voting can be found HERE
