KC Current and Sponsors Celebrated Grand Opening of New Mini-Pitch at Ashland Square Park

The Kansas City Current, Target, Kansas City Parks and Recreation, and the U.S. Soccer Foundation officially opened a new mini-pitch on July 15, 2022 in Ashland Square Park. The organizations teamed up to transform an under-used space at the park into a brand-new, state-of-the-art mini-pitch. This project was made possible through funding from KC Current and Target with support from Palmer Square Capital Investment, and builds on more than 100 mini-pitches the U.S. Soccer Foundation and Target have installed together since 2018.

KC Current players Kate Del Fava, Cece Kizer, Addisyn Merrick alongside representatives from the city, KC Current, and U.S. Soccer Foundation hosted the ribbon cutting ceremony. This was followed by scrimmages on the pitch and a festival featuring other soccer activities, food, photo/autograph sessions, a DJ, and more.

This mini-pitch also marks the latest development in the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s It’s Everyone’s Game national movement to ensure children in underserved communities can enjoy the health and youth development benefits of the game. To date, the U.S. Soccer Foundation has installed more than 500 mini-pitches nationwide. The goal is to install 1,000 by 2026.
