Kansas City Signs Jéssica Silva

Portuguese International comes to Kansas City through 2022 season 

KANSAS CITY (May 10, 2021) – Kansas City NWSL announced today the signing of forward Jéssica Silva to a two-year agreement with the club. Silva comes to Kansas City after spending the last two seasons with Olympique Lyonnais. 

Jéssica is an exciting player who we hope will be able to provide a spark to our offense,” said Head Coach Huw Williams. “She is a very creative and often flamboyant one-versus-one player.” 

Silva has been representing her home country of Portugal since 2011After making several appearances for Portugal’s U-19 team, she was called into action with the senior team in November of 2011 as her team faced Austria in a qualifying match for the UEFA Women’s Euro tournament. Silva has since made 64 appearances for Portugal, including three of the team’s four matches so far in 2021.  

Professionally, Silva has played across Europe’s premiere divisions, including Swedish side Linköpings FCPortugal’s Clube de Albergaria and Spanish Premier Division Levante Unión DeportivaIn two seasons with Levante from 2017-2019, Silva made 41 appearances with six goals. 

Following the 2018-2019 season with Levante, Silva joined Olympique Lyonnaise (OL) of the French Division 1 Féminine. Due to injury, she only tallied 18 minutes for OL, but she made them count with the team’s final goal against Stade de Reims 

Kansas City expects Silva to be able to join the team in late May or early June. In the meantime, the team prepares to kickoff the 2021 regular season this Saturday, May 15 when they take on Racing Louisville at 4 p.m. CT at Lynn Family Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky. Kansas City opens its regular season home schedule on Wednesday, May 26 at 7 p.m. CT when they welcome Julie Ertz and the Chicago Red Stars to Legends Field. Both of those games will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network. For information on group outings and season tickets, visit kansascitycurrent.com.
