​Kansas City NWSL Faces Houston Dash in Midweek Matchup

KANSAS CITY (Oct. 13, 2021) - Kansas City NWSL hosts the Houston Dash on Wednesday, Oct. 13 for its second home match in four days. This is the third matchup between the two this regular season, and the second at Legends Field. 

Kansas City battled to a 0-0 draw on Sunday night against the league-leading Portland Thorns. Kansas City almost took the lead in the 37th minute as Forward Kristen Hamilton broke free and slotted a shot into the back of the net. However, Hamilton was whistled for a penalty against the Thorns’ defender on her way to the shot, nullifying the goal. Kansas City’s defense looked sharp and organized throughout the match. Goalkeeper Adrianna ‘AD’ Franch recorded her second clean sheet for Kansas City, helping to keep opponents scoreless in the last 230 minutes of play at Legends Field.

Houston’s last match was Sunday night as well, earning a 4-1 victory over the North Carolina Courage. Rachel Daly led the way with two goals, while Bri Visalli and Shea Groom each added one for the Dash. With the win, Houston joins the Courage in a third place tie in the NWSL with 32 points and an overall record of 9-7-5 on the season. 

HOME-HEAVY OCTOBER
Originally scheduled for Oct. 2, this rescheduled match marks the second of four at home for Kansas City in the month of October. After traveling to Chicago on Saturday, Oct. 16, the team closes out the regular season with home tilts against NJ/NY Gotham on Friday, Oct. 22 and OL Reign on Saturday, Oct. 30. PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Kansas City: Defender Elizabeth Ball - 
Ball has been a key component to the Kansas City defense this season and anchored the backline this past Sunday to hold a clean sheet against the high-powered Portland Thorns offense. Ball has played and started in 12 games for a total of 1,003 minutes on the year. 

Houston Dash:  Forward Rachel Daly - Daly has been the go-to for Houston’s attack this season, not only leading the Dash, but all of NWSL. She scored in back-to-back games for Houston including a two-goal performance on Sunday night against the Courage.
