KANSAS CITY (June 29, 2021) — Kansas City NWSL midfielder Chloe Logarzo was named to the Australian National Team roster for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Tuesday evening, becoming the third Kansas City player to represent their country at this summer’s tournament. She joins defender Katie Bowen (New Zealand) and midfielder Desiree Scott (Canada) at the Tokyo 2020 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament, which runs from July 21 through August 6.
The selection marks Logarzo’s second Olympic tournament representing Australia, as she also joined the Matildas at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She appeared in all four of Australia’s matches in the 2016 Olympic tournament, including their quarterfinal loss in penalty kicks to Brazil. Logarzo has also repped her country at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Australia will play in Group G in Tokyo, a group that includes Sweden, the United States, and Bowen’s New Zealand. Australia’s first match of the group stage is on Wednesday, July 21 at 6:30 a.m. CT against New Zealand, followed by a match against Sweden on Saturday, July 24 at 3:30 a.m. CT. Logarzo and Australia close group-stage play on Tuesday, July 27 against the United States.
Of the 12 nations competing in the three groups, eight will advance to the Olympic Quarterfinals. Australia can qualify directly by finishing in the top two in Group G, or indirectly by finishing group-stage play as the first or second-best third place team.
Logarzo made her regular season debut for Kansas City NWSL on June 20 against Portland, playing 26 minutes and recording two shots. She also featured in 45 minutes of Kansas City’s match against Orlando on June 23. Logarzo plans to rejoin the team following the conclusion of the Tokyo 2020 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.
