KANSAS CITY (Oct. 8, 2026) — The Kansas City Current signed midfielder Avery Clark to a short-term contract through Dec. 31, 2026, the club announced Thursday. Clark had most recently been on the KC Current II roster, helping the team win the 2026 Women’s Premier Soccer League Championship while being named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
Clark previously played with the first team during the 2026 Teal Rising Cup in April, scoring the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute of the Kansas City Current’s 2-1 semifinal victory over Brazilian side Corinthians SC. She was a second-half substitute in the Current’s 6-1 victory over Brazil’s SE Palmeiras in the championship match.
“We’re excited to welcome Avery to the first team, said general manager Ryan Dell. “This opportunity is one she has fully earned through her development, leadership and incredible form on the pitch during her time with KC Current II.”
Clark scored a team-high 16 goals during Current II’s WPSL season over the summer, which included the game-winning goal in the final against New York Athletic Club. She also helped Current II capture the Heartland Division, Midwest Conference Championship and Central Regional Championship in the team’s first competitive season in the league since 2022. Clark was also named to the WPSL All-Central Region Team and the WPSL All-National Selection Team.
“I’m beyond excited! From day one in Kansas City, I knew this club was special. Being here has pushed me to become the best version of myself, both as a player and as a person,” said Clark. “KC Current II and the Current prove every single day why this is the premier destination in women’s sports. I’m endlessly grateful to my coaches, teammates, the club and ownership for believing in me, and I’m ready to give this team and city my all.”
A native of Brentwood, Tenn., Clark played two seasons at the University of Texas (2023-24) where she totaled five goals and four assists in 41 games. She was named to the 2023 All-Big 12 Freshman Team.
