Kansas City Current Sign Jamaican National Team Goalkeeper Sydney Schneider

The Kansas City Current signed goalkeeper Sydney Schneider to a one-year contract with a one-year option. Per team policies, no further details were disclosed.

“We are excited to bring Sydney into the goalkeeping mix this year,” said general manager Camille Levin Ashton. “It’s important to have depth at such an important position and adding an international caliber player will make the entire unit stronger.”

Schneider is entering her second professional season after being selected by the Washington Spirit with the 29th overall pick in the 2021 NWSL Draft. The New Jersey native also holds Jamaican citizenship and has 19 appearances for the Jamaican National Team. In 2018, Schneider led the Reggae Girlz to a third-place finish in the CONCACAF Women’s Championship and a berth in the 2019 FIFA World Cup.

Schneider played 44 games for the University of North Carolina-Wilmington from 2017-2019, only missing a few games in 2018 while playing for Jamaica. In 2019 she was First-Team All-Colonial Athletic Association and the first-ever recipient of CAA Goalkeeper of the Year award.

Following the Current’s draw against Racing Louisville last week, the Current will travel to face the Chicago Red Stars Friday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. CT. The team’s home debut will be at Children’s Mercy Park Saturday, April 2 at 2 p.m. CT. Tickets are available at KansasCityCurrent.com.
