Kansas City Current Defender Laney Rouse Added to U.S. U-23 National Team Training Camp

Kansas City Current defender Laney Rouse has been added to the United States Under-23 Women’s National Team roster for a training camp and pair of friendlies, U.S. Soccer announced on Sunday. The training camp runs from Oct. 5-13 at the Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Fayetteville, Ga.

The U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team will play two friendlies during the duration of camp, taking on the Dominican Republic U-23 Women’s National Team on Oct. 9 at 4:30 p.m. CT and on Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. CT. Both games will be on Field 3 at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center.

Rouse, who signed a contract extension in May to keep her in Kansas City through the 2028 season, has represented the United States Youth National Team at the Under-14, U-16, U-19 and U-20 levels. She helped the U.S. win the 2022 Concacaf U-20 Championship, recording an assist vs. the Dominican Republic as the team won Group E. She was also part of the U.S. squad which won the Sud Ladies Cup in 2022. Rouse participated in the 2022 FIFA U-20 World Cup, starting two of the USA’s three matches with a full 90 minutes and registering an assist vs. Ghana in the opening group stage match.

This is Rouse’s first call-up at the U-23 level. The Cary, N.C. native has been a key contributor throughout her rookie season, making 18 appearances and 13 starts with nearly 1,200 minutes played. Rouse recorded the first assist of her professional career on July 17 against San Diego and added her second on Oct. 3 against Bay FC.

Rouse replaces Kate Del Fava on the U-23 roster, who was added to the U.S. Women’s National Team roster on Sunday morning.

The U.S. U-23 squad will train alongside Emma Hayes’ senior team for the week but will stay in Georgia when the USWNT travels to Washington, D.C. and Chester, Pa. to take on Spain. Rouse is one of 24 NWSL players on the training camp roster.
