Kansas City Current Clinches Home Quarterfinal Match, Finalizes Playoff Path Following NWSL Decision Day

KANSAS CITY (Nov. 1, 2026) — The Kansas City Current clinched a top-four seed on the final NWSL table and a home match in the quarterfinal round of the 2026 NWSL Playoffs, presented by Google Pixel, following Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Racing Louisville FC. Kansas City enters the postseason as the No. 4 seed and will host fifth-seeded Angel City FC at CPKC Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. CT. The match will broadcast nationally on CBS.

Kansas City is making its third consecutive postseason appearance and fourth overall in the franchise’s six-year history. The Current secured a postseason berth on Oct. 23 and, with an ongoing five-match winning streak to close the regular season, locked in a home quarterfinal match following tonight’s result. Tickets to Saturday’s quarterfinal match are now on sale to the general public and can be purchased HERE.

This marks the third playoff match in CPKC Stadium history. In 2024, the Current earned a 1-0 victory over the fifth-seeded North Carolina Courage in the first home postseason match in franchise history. Kansas City also hosted Gotham FC in the quarterfinal round in 2025. The Current is one of four NWSL clubs riding an active postseason streak of three or more seasons.

The Current concluded the 2026 regular season collecting 53 points, and the club has reached 50+ points in three consecutive seasons. Kansas City poured in 54 goals in the regular season, the best total in the league, and the second-highest single-season total in franchise history.

Individually, forwards Temwa Chawinga (12 goals) and Haley Hopkins (12 goals) are one of three pairs of teammates in the NWSL with double-digit goals this season. Forward/midfielder Debinha became the NWSL’s all-time leading scorer on Aug. 8 with her 83rd goal across all competitions. Chawinga (May 10), Hopkins (Sept. 26) and Debinha (Oct. 3) each recorded a hat trick in NWSL regular season play, tied for the most hat tricks by a team in a single season in league history.

Midfielder Croix Bethune broke the NWSL’s single-season record for both assists and game-winning assists with her 11th assist — and sixth game-winning helper — on Oct. 25 against Washington. As a team, the Current poured in a franchise-record 39 goals at home and extended the club’s franchise-record home unbeaten streak to 32 matches following an unblemished home mark of 11-0-4 in 2026.

Fans in attendance at Saturday postseason match can look forward to themed giveaways and activations centering around the Current’s annual Teal Time postseason campaign. More information will be shared following the full launch of the club’s annual postseason campaign on Monday.

Fans in Kansas City can listen to next Saturday’s match on 90.9 The Bridge, and an audio feed of the match will be available in English, Spanish and Portuguese on the KC Current App.

Following the conclusion of the regular season, the NWSL announced the dates, times and host venues for all quarterfinal matches of the 2026 NWSL Playoffs, presented by Google Pixel. The top four seeds will host quarterfinal matches, and the two highest remaining seeds will host semifinal matches.
