Kansas City Current Announces Inaugural Rails to Riverfront 5K, 10K at Current Landing

KANSAS CITY (Aug. 21, 2026) — The Kansas City Current has announced the inaugural Rails to Riverfront 5K and 10K, a new community race celebrating movement, connection and Kansas City’s evolving riverfront. The event will take place Sunday, Sept. 27, beginning at 8 a.m. CT, with race participants starting and finishing at Current Landing.

Hosted by the Kansas City Current in partnership with Current Landing and the Kansas City Running Company, the race features a flat, fast course designed for runners of all experience levels. Interested participants can fill out an interest form HERE and registration will officially open next week.

"Current Landing was designed to be a place where people come together to celebrate, connect and create lasting memories, and Rails to Riverfront is another exciting way we're bringing that vision to life," said Ashley Kraus, Head of Experience at Current Landing. "Whether you're chasing a personal best, walking with family and friends or enjoying the post-race festival, this event is about building community while showcasing one of Kansas City's most exciting new destinations. We're thrilled to welcome runners of all ages and abilities to Current Landing for what we hope becomes a new Kansas City tradition."

The name Rails to Riverfront reflects the club's long-term vision of connecting Kansas City's growing riverfront with the expanding streetcar system. As future race routes evolve alongside the city's development, the event aims to celebrate the connection between neighborhoods, KC Streetcar and Current Landing.

Following the race, participants are invited to enjoy a celebratory, festival atmosphere at Current Landing featuring music, food, entertainment and community activations. Every registered runner will receive a commemorative race T-shirt, a finisher medal and a race bib that can be redeemed for a special discount at the KC Current Shop at the Country Club Plaza.

The event also coincides with the opening weekend of the Plaza Art Fair, giving participants another opportunity to experience one of Kansas City's signature annual traditions after crossing the finish line.
