Kansas City Current Acquires Goalkeeper Cassie Miller In Trade with Chicago Red Stars

KANSAS CITY (Feb. 18, 2022) — The Kansas City Current acquired goalkeeper Cassie Miller in a trade with the Chicago Red Stars in exchange for $75,000 in allocation money. Miller will join the Current at the team’s preseason training camp in Florida this weekend.

“Adding Cassie to our team helps to bolster our goalkeeping room,” said general manager Camille Levin. “What she did last season, in leading her team to the championship match, proved that she can perform at the highest level.”

The Arizona native stepped in for the Red Stars last season after losing Alyssa Naeher to the Olympics and injury. Miller played 18 games for Chicago in 2021, leading them all the way to NWSL Championship game. She earned seven clean sheets, including two in the playoffs. Before Chicago, Miller played for PSV in the Netherlands, earning two shutouts and five wins in five appearances.

“I’m super excited to come in and put some work in. So grateful for this opportunity and the next chapter in my career,” said Miller. “I’m looking forward to seeing everyone on the pitch and getting involved in the Kansas City community.”

Miller spent her collegiate career at Florida State University. After redshirting her freshman season in 2013, played 94 games for the Seminoles from 2014-2017. In 2014 she posted an NCAA record 19 shutouts and a Florida State record 24 wins on the way to the NCAA National Championship. In 2015 she led the Seminoles to a record 10 straight NCAA tournament shutout wins. Through her four seasons, Miller set a Florida State record with 48 shutouts.

Preseason training continues for Miller and the Current as the team prepares for the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup. Kansas City will open the tournament on the road, facing Racing Louisville FC March 18 at 6:30 p.m. CT.
