KANSAS CITY (Nov. 7, 2025) – Kansas City Current defender Izzy Rodriguez has landed on the season’s final National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Best XI of the Month, the league announced Friday. Rodriguez received the recognition for her impressive performances during October and November as the Current closed out a historic regular season.
This marks the third time this year, and fourth time in her career, Rodriguez has earned Best XI of the Month praise. She also collected the monthly award in May and August. Kansas City garnered a league-leading 19 Best XI selections this year, the most by any club over a full regular season in NWSL history.
A staple on the Current’s stalwart back line, Rodriguez played a vital role in Kansas City’s record-setting – and Shield-winning – regular season which saw NWSL records for wins (21), points (65), clean sheets (16), consecutive shutout minutes (869), consecutive shutouts (9) and shutouts at home (8). Additionally, Rodriguez helped anchor a defensive unit which conceded just 13 goals during the entire regular season for yet another league record.
The Canton, Mich. native dished out her team-leading sixth assist against Gotham FC on Oct. 11 to equal the club single-season record for regular season assists. Rodriguez also tied the franchise record for career regular season assists with 11. That game against Gotham was also her 50th career regular season start for Kansas City, the fifth player to hit that milestone for the club.
Rodriguez, who signed a three-year contract extension back in June to keep her in Kansas City through the 2028 season, concluded the regular season tied for first in the league with six assists. She currently ranks third on the team with 2,076 minutes and became the first player in club history to play in 26 games in a single regular season. She earned a spot in the starting lineup in 22 of those 26 matches.
Kansas City enters the NWSL Playoffs, presented by Google Pixel, as the No. 1 overall seed and will host No. 8 Gotham FC for a quarterfinal matchup on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 11:30 a.m. at CPKC Stadium. The match will broadcast nationally on ABC with Jenn Hildreth and Lianna Sanderson on the call, as well as on the World Feed with JP Dellacamera and Merritt Mathias. Fans in Kansas City can tune into 90.9 The Bridge to listen to Jillian Carroll Letrinko and Dave Borchardt call the action, and the KC Current app will have an audio stream in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
