Defender Elizabeth Ball Inks Contract Extension With Kansas City Current

KANSAS CITY (July 27, 2026) – The Kansas City Current and defender Elizabeth Ball have agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with a mutual option for 2028, the club announced on Monday. Previously under contract through 2026, Ball will now remain in the Heartland through at least the 2027 season.

“Elizabeth has been a crucial part of the Kansas City Current since the very beginning,” said general manager Ryan Dell. “She has helped build our club into what it is today, and we’re thrilled that she will continue to be part of our growth. Not only is Elizabeth a remarkable player, but she has shown a tremendous commitment to the team, the organization and the community since day one, and her selflessness and leadership do not go unnoticed.”

A cornerstone of the KC Current since joining the team in January 2021, Ball was part of the club’s first-ever roster after being acquired from the Utah Royals. Her 98 regular season appearances for Kansas City rank third in franchise history while her 82 regular season starts are second all-time in the club record book. Additionally, she ranks second in club history with 7,312 regular season minutes played.

“It’s exciting to continue my career in Kansas City,” said Ball. “I’m looking forward to the rest of the season ahead and I’m focused on doing everything I can to help the team succeed.”

The Richmond, Va. native was a key factor in the Current winning the 2025 NWSL Shield, the first in club history and the first in Ball’s career. Ball helped the club set numerous regular season league records last year, including points (65), wins (21), consecutive wins (9), consecutive shutout minutes (869), shutouts (16) and consecutive shutouts (9).

Ball scored a goal in a win at Racing Louisville on Aug. 1, 2025, in what was her 100th career regular season appearance. Other notable moments include her first NWSL goal against the Houston Dash on Oct. 13, 2021; a game-winning header vs. the Utah Royals on May 25, 2024; and her first multi-assist game on June 23, 2024, against the Portland Thorns.

The center back has totaled three goals and four assists in 120 appearances with 95 starts and 8,503 minutes across her regular season career. Across all competitions, Ball has 148 appearances, 119 starts, three goals, four assists and 10,572 minutes logged.
