Selected as the 10th overall pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft, Spaanstra appeared in 15 regular season matches in her first professional season. She earned NWSL Rookie of the Month honors for her performances in September/October 2023, notching her first career assist and goal in a single match. Spaanstra spent her collegiate years with the University of Virginia, earning numerous honors including three selections to the ACC Championship All-Tournament Team.
